Ash Silo

Confined Space Ash Silo Entry

Working direct to the Biomass Plant

We have built a great relationship with this client. We started off working at just one plant, We now work at three. We were brought in to assist another contractor to clear a bridged ash silo.

Challenge

A long list of hazards were identified prior to work commencing:

  • Working at height
  • Working in a confined space
  • Extremely high CO2 readings
  • Free flowing solids
  • Use of air tools

The list went on, Careful planning was key and a thorough hazard identification and risk assessment was completed. With no suitable anchorage we utilised our Arizona Vortex. This was both our anchorage and Artificial High Directional (AHD) which allows ease of access and egress. It enable a swift raise rescue which was practiced before work commenced.

Full Breathing apparatus was required due to the very high levels of CO2 within the silo, The BA trailer was manned at all times.

Once all rigging and safety checks were completed we descended into the silo to start drilling for the Cardox tubes to be placed.

Value

In utilising White Dragon Access Ltd it enabled the placement of the Cardox tubes exactly where they were needed, Thus saving the client cost in misplaced tubes.
